FR aramid plain weave ribbon

"FR aramid plain weave ribbon" (often referred to as aramid tape) is a narrow, lightweight textile made from inherently flame-retardant fibers like Kevlar® (para-aramid) or Nomex® (meta-aramid). It uses a simple "one-over, one-under" plain weave pattern to provide maximum structural stability and minimal stretch.

Key Characteristics

Inherent Fire Safety: These ribbons are naturally non-combustible and do not melt or drip. Para-aramids (Kevlar) can withstand temperatures up to 560°C (1,040°F) before carbonizing, while meta-aramids (Nomex) generally withstand up to 370°C (700°F).

High Stability & Low Stretch: The plain weave pattern offers the highest degree of dimensional stability and is less prone to fraying compared to more complex weaves.

Extreme Strength-to-Weight: Para-aramid ribbons are five times stronger than steel on an equal-weight basis, making them ideal for reinforcing lightweight structures.

Dielectric Properties: They are non-conductive, making them safe for use as electrical insulation or in environments with arc-flash risks.

Common Applications

Aerospace & Aviation: Used as binding tapes for insulation blankets, wire harness lacing, and reinforcing aircraft interior panels.

Industrial Safety: Found in the seams of fire-resistant clothing (PPE), helmet chinstraps, and heat-protective curtains.

Electrical Insulation: Used to wrap high-temperature motors, generators, and transformers due to its thermal and dielectric stability.

Composite Reinforcement: Thin plain-weave ribbons are frequently used to reinforce the edges of carbon fiber or fiberglass layups in marine and automotive parts.
